Take Action Before Others are Harmed

I too was complacent.  This was someone else’s battle to fight. I was content to stay in my lane and mind my own business...until it happened to me. On September 26, 2022 my privacy was violated by a man in the women’s locker room at my local YMCA. I was deceived by the YMCA. I really thought that the women’s locker room was a safe place for women and girls to shower and change…until it happened to me.

Every day, since that horrible incident, I have struggled with anger. The leadership of the YMCA betrayed me. Like so many other women, I falsely assumed that the YMCA was safe…until it happened to me. And when it happened to me, the only reassuring words I received from the YMCA were “if you are not comfortable changing in the women’s locker room, you can use the family locker room.”

Shame on the YMCA for putting women and girls in harm's way. This experience has changed me forever. As long as God gives me a voice, I will not stop sharing this message.

I am so thankful for the Independent Women’s Forum, an organization that has supported me and the many other brave women and girls, who like me, were violated* at a YMCA. We have chosen to bravely speak out on the front lines for the sake of protecting other young girls and women. Take action now before it happens to you or to someone you love. It truly is a war of “good vs evil.”.

May God be glorified by our actions and turn our pain into purpose as we continue to share his truth with others in our communities. May our efforts allow more women and girls to know their true value and worth –they are God’s precious treasures.
